6/7/2023 0 Comments The cellar by richard laymon![]() ![]() This is about a house rumored to contain a blood-thirsty beast. I have rated this book 5 twisted □□□□□ stars!! I recommend this book only to horror lovers who are open to "anything goes" in their choice of reading material. I thought the book was well-written even though it was disturbing in many parts, but isn't horror mean't to be disturbing, shocking or downright frightening? ![]() This story is not for the faint hearted or if a reader is easily offended by graphic violence, language and sex, since it has it all. I have to laugh when I read some of the reviews because this is a true horror book and not to be taken so seriously. I am looking forward to the next book in the series. ![]() (Richard Laymon was not in my vocabulary in that lifetime). I thought this was my first Richard Laymon book but when I reached a certain part, I realized I read this book when I was still a teenager and never forgot how disturbing it was but I had no idea it was an R.L. Well! There must be something wrong with me because I really enjoyed reading this twisted story. ![]() 6/7/2023 0 Comments Sookie stackhouse 11![]() "But it doesn't seem to get me any happier." I didn't know if I had a valid point or if I was simply being self-pitying, but it was too late at night-no, too early in the morning-to have the clarity of mind to decide that. "That's what you all keep saying," I answered. "I love you," Bill said helplessly, as if he wished those magic words would heal me. ![]() But the rest-no matter what her circumstances had been, no matter how hard her life before and after her first death, Lorena had been an evil bitch. ![]() I couldn't really hold the prostitute part against her, since there hadn't been that many ways for a woman alone to make a living in the old times, even a vampire woman. Well, I was glad Bill and Judith had gotten to talk over fun times in the old days with Mama Lorena-murderess, prostitute, torturer. Looking back on her life now-Judith and I talked about this, of course-Lorena betrayed her own maker, and then had years and years to regret it. As loathsome as I found Lorena, I have to admit that she did her best to teach me to be an effective vampire. The years spent with one's maker are the most important years of a vampire's existence. "Not only did Appius already enter negotiations, so there are presumably legal documents on the table, but also I would have to give my maker's wishes some consideration-as much as I hate to acknowledge that. In an eerie echo, Bill took my hand just as Eric had earlier. "What a dilemma," Bill said, not totally displeased. ![]() I condensed the situation into a few sentences. ![]() 6/7/2023 0 Comments The eight neville![]() ![]() In fact, if I have any complaint about the book it’s that there is altogether too much chess, too many eights, and too many historical figures to keep straight. The game of chess plays a prominent role in the story, and the number eight is pivotal. As the story progresses, every historical character you’ve ever heard of (and some you probably haven’t) from the mid to late 1700’s makes at least an appearance from Robespierre to Catherine the Great to Fibonacci the mathemetician. Both of the women become involved with a chess set that dates back to the time of Charlemagne, the set called the Montglane Service. ![]() But the main characters are a couple of women: a French nun named Mireille and an American computer expert, Catherine Velis. Life is a kind of chess –Benjamin Franklinīobby and Benjamin both make cameo appearances in this thriller/spy novel set both in the 1970’s and in the time of the French Revolution. ![]() 6/7/2023 0 Comments Shattered sea book 2![]() ![]() During a break between jobs he began writing The Blade Itself in 2002, completing it in 2004. In his book on American populism, The Populist Persuasion, the historian Michael Kazin describes populism as “a language whose speakers conceive of ordinary people as a noble assemblage not bounded narrowly by class view their elite opponents as self-serving and undemocratic and seek to mobilise the former against the latter.” It is not an ideology, but a political logic – a way of thinking about politics. There are rightwing, leftwing and centrist populist parties. ![]() The kind of populism that runs through American history, and has been transplanted to Europe, cannot be defined exclusively in terms of right, left or centre: it includes both Donald Trump and Bernie Sanders, the Front National in France and Podemos in Spain. ![]() |
